Trip Overview

This is a thrilling hiking trip that combines the peaceful Arun Valley with the Dudh Koshi Valley in the Everest Region. The route takes you through an off-the-beaten-path, away from the main route, area which is breathtaking. On the way, trekkers are able to enjoy stunning views from the Himalaya and villages in rural areas with terraced fields and dense forests.

The thrilling trail in Arun Valley Trekking takes you through many remote valleys before coming to the major Everest trail near the airport at high altitude of Lukla. Lukla is very near to Namche Bazaar, the gateway to the Khumbu. Namche Bazaar is one of the most famous trade center of Nepal and is settled in slope of hills. Arun Valley Trekking is effortlessly combined with one or our Everest Trails.

The beautiful Arun Valley lies within two of the national parks in the Everest Region (Sagarmatha National Park) and Makalu Region (Makalu-Barun National Park). It is a great place to trek for its biodiversity and historical attraction. This trek is away from the main roads and has a small number of people on the trail. It is a great way to interact with culture and tons of information that can't be encountered on the more crowded or more lucrative routes. The people spending their livelihood in these regions are mostly Rai, Limbu, and Sherpa ethnic groups.

The journey begins with a beautiful flight to Tumlingtar which is a beautiful village located near the Arun River. Then we hike west through farmland that is largely rural. We will cross several ridges on the route to Lukla with spectacular views while enjoying Nepal hiking at its finest.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Fly from Kathmandu to Tumlingtar (520 mt.) and trek to Kartike. Walking 5-6 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 02: Kartike to Gothe Bazaar (750 mt.). Walking 5-6 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 03: Gothe Bazaar to Salpa Phedi (1,680 mt.). Walking 5-6 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 04: Salpa Phedi to Guranse (2,880 mt.). Walking 4 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 05: Guranse to Sanam (2,850 mt.). via Shalpa pass (3340m) 7-8 hr. Overnight at tented camp
Day 06: Sanam to Bung (1,900 mt.). Walking 5-6 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 07: Bung to Gai Kharka (2,300 mt.). Walking 5-6 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 08: Gai Kharka to Vasme. Walking 4 hours hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 09: Vasme to Pangum. Walking 4 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 10: Pangum to Paiya (2,730 mt.). Walking 4 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 11: Paiya to Lukla (2,804 mt.). Walking 4 hours. Overnight at tented camp.
Day 12: Fly from Lukla to Kathmandu. Flight 30 min. Overnight at hotel.
Day 13: Transfer to Airport for your final departure from Nepal.

Detail Itinerary

After having breakfast in Kathmandu, you will be flying to Tumlingtar. It is a city between Arun and Sabha river. Then, you will trekking to Kartike which take approximately 5-6 hours. On the way, you can see Chamalang and Makalu mountain on far left and right respectively. Majority of people living in Kartike are Brahmin and Chetteri and it is very famous for bees and honey. You will be having your dinner in a tented camp and spending your night.

You will be trekking from Kartike to Gothe Bazaar which is approximately 5-6 hours far. On your trekking journey, you will have to pass several valleys and forest and you have to cross a suspension bridge which is over Arun River. You can also expect to see rice and banana fields on the path.

After breakfast, you will then leave for Salpa Phedi which is approximately 5-6 hours far from Gothe Bazaar. On the way, you have to cross a suspension bridge which is built over Irkhuwa River. You will have to pass several villages and dense forest to reach to your destination for the day where you will spend a night in a tented camp.

After a night in Salpa Phedi, your next destination will be Guranse which is approximately 4 hours far. On the way, you will climb along small streams and through dense forest. You can expect to see Rhododendron (laliguras) on your path. You will stay in a tented camp and rest for the day.

It will a long day, as you will be trekking for almost 7-8 hours. You can see exotic view of Makalu and Chamlang from Shalpa pass. You will continue to descent through Rhododendron forest. After sometime, you will ascend and descend then reach your final destination for the day Sanam where you will be camping for a night.

After having breakfast in your camping area, you will descend through Rhododendron and Pine forest. You will cross suspension bridge which is over Hinku River after that you will reach to Bung. You will be staying there for a night in a tent.

You will leave your camping area and you will descend steep cliff of a hill which are covered by bamboo. You can also expect to see monastery and an open area which used to be a grazing place for Yaks of villagers along your path. After reaching Gai Kharka, you will rest for the day and continue your journey the day after.

After breakfast, you will leave your camping area and you will go downhill on the edge and trek through many ups and downs. You will go through Rhododendron and Juniper forest alongside Hinku river and then reach your destination Vasme which is also known as Sibuje. You can see view of Mera peak and Khumbu region from Vasme.

You will leave Vasme village and go through dense Rhododendron forest. You will get mesmerizing view of Mera peak, Kangtega peak and many more. You will descend through ridge and reach your destination Pangum. Most of the people living there are Sherpas, who help trekkers in their journey. You will spend a night in Pangum in a tented camp.

After having breakfast in your camping area, you will leave Arun valley trail. You will ascend through forest of Rhododendron and Oak. You can expect to see beautiful views of mountains on the way. You will cross a bridge over Paiya River which leads to Paiya village where you will be resting for the day.

You will leave for Lukla from Paiya which will be approximately 4 hours far. On the way, you can see a beautiful waterfall, monastery and many more. There are many fertile land on the way, so you can see people harvesting crops like wheat, barley, vegetables etc there. Lukla is a gateway to Mount Everest. Many tourist land on Lukla to visit Mount Everest and many places around that area.

You will fly to Kathmandu from Lukla which will be a thrilling experience because Lukla is one of the most dangerous airport around the world and only experienced pilots are given permission to fly there as it has runway in a hill and the plane has to go through many hills to reach there. The flight will last approximately 30 minutes and you will staying in a hotel in Kathmandu.

You will be escorted in a private tourist vehicle to Tribhuvan International Airport for your final departure from Nepal.
