Trip Overview

Chitwan National Park is the first national park in Nepal which was established in 1973 and it was declared as a World Heritage Site in 1984. It roughly covers an area of 952.63 sq km. In the north and west Narayani-Rapti river forms a natural boundary to human settlements. It used to be favorite hunting grounds for Nepal’s ruling class during old times. The climate around this park is a tropical monsoon climate with high humidity all the year. Reports suggest that this park is home to 68 species of mammals, 17 species of snakes, 113 species of fish and crocodiles and 543 species of bird which is two-thirds of Nepal’s globally threatened species. Species of butterfly and insect is yet to be surveyed.

The main attraction for this place is one-horned rhinoceros which sometimes go outside national park and walk around some nearby villages and cities. The poaching of the animal was done in the past for its precious horn. By the end of the 1960s, 70% of Chiwtan’s jungles had been cleared. These kind of activities are now a punishable act under Nepal Government. Many species of birds and animals are found there and you can also enjoy the whole park on an elephant. Yes, the national park offers elephant rides in which individuals’ tour around the park on the back of an elephant. It is quite amazing experience as you will get to see Bengal tigers, sloth bears, gharials, chital stag from a top view. You can also take a jeep safari, walking trek in the park. Other than that, you can also see different type of vegetation around the park. Sal trees covers around 70% area of the national park. On the northern part small flowering and shrubs can be seen such as rosewood, axlewood, creepers etc. Some of the world’s tallest grass can be also found here. Majority people living around those areas are Tharu people.

It is a perfect place for animal lovers and those who want to see wild animals closely. You will see endangered species of mammals, snake, fish, birds etc in this park. For students who are researching about wildlife it is a heaven as there are a lot of species of birds and animals. Many local and foreign tourist come here for a safari and we are certain that you will enjoy your jungle safari to the fullest.

Detail Itinerary

Arrive in Chitwan: After 6 to 7 hours drive from Kathmandu you will reach Chitwan.

Exploring village and visiting Elephant breeding center: You will be exploring local villages of chitwan and visiting Elephant breeding center in the evening.

Cultural Program: After dinner, you will be watching Tharu communities unique performance in which you will having drinks and meats to make you more entertained.

Jungle walking: After having breakfast, you will go into jungle for bird watching and walk through lush sub-tropical jungles of Chitwan.

Elephant Safari: You will do an elephant safari and do a deep tour inside Chitwan National park where you can see tigers, crocodiles and rare animals species like one horned rhinoceros.

More than 500 species has been recorded in Chitwan. This is a heaven for those who love to watch birds and listen to their songs. Lesser Adjutant Stork, Blue Indian Roller, Hornbills, Ruby Cheeked Sunbird are some bird species found here. This place hold 1/3 of the total bird species found in Nepal. Also the study of insect species found in here is yet to be done.
