In that also Kathmandu holds four of them which includes Pashupatinath, Swayambhunath, Boudhanath and Kathmandu Durbar Sqaure. All of them are religious places expect for Kathmandu Durbar Square but it is quite debatable as it has home of living goddess Kumari. We can see a lot of temples around Kathmandu Durbar Square which includes Kaal Bhairav, Kasthamandap (which is said to be built from wood of a single tree which is just phenomenal), Taleju (which only opens once in a year during Dashain) etc. Not only that but it hosts Indra Jatra where the living goddess Kumari is given a city tour in her chariot which is parked just beside her home. In Indra Jatra many ancient god and goddess dances. It is a festival which was started centuries ago. Coming next is Pashupatinath which translates to Lord of animals. Pashupatinath is a holy place for Hindus where Lord Shiva resides. Visitors can see ceremony from life to death of a Hindu people. Only Hindu people are allowed inside the temple so visitors might not get permission to enter there.
Swayambhunath is a holy place for Buddhist as well as Hindu people. The temple is located at the top of the hill and the climb to the temple is very steep. Legend say that there was a lotus when Kathmandu was a big lake and after the water was drained out by cutting hills by Manjushree, the lotus turned into a hill and Swayambhunath was formed. Visitors can see a lot of monkeys around the temple as well as a temple of Manjushree just beside the Stupa. Many people come to Swayambhunath on the occasion of Buddha Jayanti to celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Gautam Buddha. Boudhanath is another holy place for people following Buddhist religion. It was built centuries ago by a prince with a regretful heart when he accidently cut his father’s head. The stupa is among the biggest stupa around the world. The stupa is surrounded by modern houses but it hasn’t lost any charm of its. Many visitors visit Boudhanath regularly where visitors can see prayers wheels where Tibetan language is written.
