Trip Overview

Lumba Sumba Pass Trek is newly discovered High pass trek of Nepal. It was explored and identified by the Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN). It lies in the Eastern region of Nepal. It is also categorized as a long and physically challenging trek. The main attraction of this trek is Lumba Suma Peak which is 5200m high from the sea level. The trail also leads you to the Kanchanjunga Base camp and Makalu Base camp. The trail passes through many villages. Olangchung goal is one of the popular villages of this trek where a number of high mountain lakes can be explored. The trail also passes through Kanchanjunga Conservation Area and Makalu Barun National Park where varieties of flora and fauna can be explored. Endangered animals like snow leopard and red panda are seen often in the trails. Another main attraction is Arun and Tamor River, which are among seven tributaries of Sapta Koshi River. Diverse cultures and castes can be seen in the villages falling on the trail. You can find Limbu, Sherpa, Rai, Gurung, Magar, Newar and Tamangs in the villages here. Thus, this trekking trail is rich culturally too. This trek is full of adventures and challenges. Thus, guide, as well as special equipment and skill for using them, is must require. Detail Itinerary

After having breakfast at tourist standard hotel in Kathmandu, you will be flying to Bhadrapur from Kathmandu which will be approximately 45 minutes flight. From Bhadrapur you will travel in a tourist standard bus to Ilam which will be 4 hours’ drive. Ilam is really famous for producing tea in Nepal. It also blessed with natural scenery and landscapes. You will be spending your night in a tent.

Breakfast will be given in your camping area and you will escorted to Taplejung in a private tourist bus after that you will start trekking to Mitlung. Trekking time will be approximately 2 hours. Taplejung is the third largest district of Nepal by area. Mitlung is a village in the Taplejung district. You will be ending your day in a camp around Mitlung village.

You will start your trekking after having breakfast in the camping area. You will trek from Mitlung to Chiruwa which is about 5-6 hours trek. On your journey you will trek beside Tamor River. Along the way you can see Tawa, Sinwa village which is settled by Limbus. You will then reach to Kanchenjunga Conservation Area’s entrance which is Thiwa village. Then you will reach your final destination for the day Chirwa.

Your journey will start in the morning after breakfast. You will be trekking to Lelep which will be approximately 5-6 hr trek from Chiruwa. You will follow along the banks of Tamor River which will then pass by a dense forest and fields. You will spend your night in a tent in Lelep which is also the headquarter of Kanchenjunga Conversation Area.

You will have your breakfast on camping area and then you will trek to Ela Danda which will be 5-6 hour trek. You will follow Tamor river and go through dense forest and cross suspension bridge. Then you will go through a pine forest and after crossing Tamor River you will reach Ela Danda which will be your destination for the day. You will be spending your night in a tent.

After having breakfast in your camping, you will then leave for Jongim Kharka which will be approximately 7-8 hours trek. You will be able to see Rhododendron (laliguras) national flower of Nepal and you will pass through dense bamboo forest where you can expect to see Red Panda (Habre) endangered species of animals in world. Before reaching your destination there is another village Selep Kharka on your way. After reaching Jongim Kharka you can see snow covered peaks.

It will be a short trek today because you will only be trekking for 3 hours. You will for Olanchung Gola from Jongim Kharka. The path will go through Rhododendron forest and then comes Olanchung Gola which has very old monastery with a golden manuscript. You will be camping there for a night.

After finishing breakfast, you will be leaving for Sanjung Kharka Camp which is approximately 6-7 hour of trek. You will be following the path which used by Tibetan traders. You will cross a river on your path and you will be staying at Sanjung Kharka for a night. It is regarded as one of the nicest place for camping where you can visualize amazing mountain surrounding.

You will be leaving for Pass Camp which is 4700m above sea level. You move towards Lumba Sumba Himal (mountain). Along the path, you might see a snow leopard (him chituwa) which is an endangered species and you can see yak pasture and naturally blessed beautiful landscape. But you must be careful because your path is very much habitat of snow leopard. You will camp in Pass Camp for the day.

You will leave immediately after breakfast because it will a long day as you will be trekking for almost 8-9 hours for the day and you might to also encounter snow on your path. On your trek to Yak Kharka you will go through Lumba Sumba La (Pass) which is 5177 m above sea level. On the way, you will ascend and after reaching the top, you will descend to the otherside. But it will be worth because you will be able to see an outstanding view of Kangchenjunga, Jannu Himalayan range and some glimpse of Makalu region.

After breakfast, you will be leaving for Jungle Camp. The trekking time is expected to be 5-6 hours. On your path, you can see Makalu and a lot of Rhododendron (laliguras) trees. You will then reach a village which is called Thudam. This village is filled with Sherpa who are best known for their mountain climbing activities. In that village you can also see houses made up of woods and you will be camping around that village and spending a night there.

You will leave soon after breakfast. You will be trekking back to Yak Kharka. The expected time is around 5-6 hours and you will be staying there for a night in a tent.

You will for Lingam School after your breakfast. The trek will last about 5-6 hours. You will continue to descend. Your path consist of dense rhododendron forest. Then you will cross suspension bridge over Arun river then you will ascend to Chyamtang after that you will reach your destination for the day Lingam School.

After having breakfast, you will leave for Hatiya which is a Tibetan tribe village and it is also the entry point of Makalu-Barun National Park. On the way, you can expect to see amazing views of Makalu Range and you will pass few villages. You can also hear birds singing along your path. You will staying in tent for a night.

You will leave Hatiya after having breakfast. It is be rougly 5-6 hours trekking for the day and you will reach Gola. You will be trekking through Arun river and Barun river. Barun carries glacier water of Makalu range. Gola is a small village which is 1128 m above sea level. There are not many houses in the village and people living there mainly consist of Sherpa, Rai and Tamang tribe.

After a night in Gola you will leave for Hedanga. You will be talking through fields where most paddy are grown. You can see a small Gurung village on your way. Gadhi is the place where Nepalese Army faced invading forces from Tibet. This place is 1179m above sea level.

From Gadhi you will be trekking to Num where you can see a lot of houses made of woods, bricks, muds and tin. After that you travel to Tumlingtar via a private tourist bus. You will stay in Tumlingtar camping.

After breakfast, you will be flying to Kathmandu from Tumlingtar. Our staff will be waiting for you at the airport and will be dropping you to your hotel to end the trip.
